SURREY – Surrey resident Simran Sidhu has won OMNI Television’s Bollywood Star, a reality series that follows aspiring hopefuls on their quest to win the prize of a lifetime – a role in a Bollywood movie, and a chance at becoming the next big Bollywood star.

The 25-year-old dancer was born in Abu Dhabi and raised in India before moving to British Columbia ten years ago. She competed against 16 semifinalists in Toronto and was among the six to advance to India.

Sidhu was part of Shiamak Davar’s Vancouver dance team, which performed at the 2011 International Indian Film Academy Awards in Toronto and the 2013 Times of India Film Awards in Vancouver.

The judges were director Richie Mehta, actor Rupinder Nagra and actress Anita Majumdar. Sidhu defeated three other finalists, winning the grand prize of a coveted role in a Bollywood film.

“The journey to becoming Canada’s first Bollywood Star has afforded me with opportunities I never believed were possible,” said Sidhu, winner. “Through this experience, I have absorbed valuable knowledge and advice from my peers, the judges, and experts in India, and can’t wait to explore my talent in a Bollywood film.”

It’s not known when she will get her chance to star in a Bollywood film.
