SURREY — Two Indo-Canadian teens from Surrey are spearheading a fundraiser for immigrants and refugees this coming Saturday night.
Arvind Vig and Kaylin Dhaliwal are both members of Interact, a YMCA youth leadership initiative. Their event, which they call Connecting Communities, is something they say is close to their hearts, reported the Now Newspaper.
“Just the thought of someone having to leave everything behind and come to a new country… it just seems likes it’s my duty as a Canadian to help them out,” said Vig, a Grade 12 student at Elgin Park Secondary.
Dhaliwal, a Grade 12 student at Sullivan Heights Secondary, said she hopes the event raises $10,000 and helps as many young people as possible.
“Every youth deserves to feel like they belong, to play sports or to go to camp,” she said.
Tickets for Saturday’s fundraiser are $50 and the event will feature dinner, entertainment and a live auction. Connecting Communities is being held at Punjab Banquet Hall, located at #125-8166 128 St., Surrey.
