BATHINDA – Lawyer HS Phoolka, who has been representing the cases of 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims for the past many years, said he would file a defamation case against SAD Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

Harsimrat had levelled allegations against Phoolka that he neither represents victims in court, not argues in court, but stands in front of the media outside the court to take credit.

In his reply, Phoolka had said that if he does not argue cases for the victims, then Harsimrat Badal should inform the people which lawyer was arguing for the victims in the Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar cases.

Showing records of his appearance in cases of anti-Sikh riots, Phoolka produced — before the media — the court orders in the Jagdish Tytler case dated June 3, June 26 and August 14.

Phoolka appeared for victims Lakhvinder Kaur, filed the protest petition and argued in the case. Phoolka also produced the orders in the Sajjan Kumar case in the high court where it has been recorded that he (Phoolka) was representing the victims.

“Instead of explaining how a clean chit was given to Jagdish Tytler in her government, she is diverting attention from the issue. During the Congress regime at the Centre, SAD and Harsimrat had levelled allegations that the CBI’s working was being influenced by the Congress. Now, her own NDA regime is doing the same thing.

“The CBI, during this NDA regime, gave a clean chit to Tytler secretly. It is shameful that a Union Minister is misleading the public by making false claims on the Sikh massacre. I challenge MP Harsimrat Badal to come for an open discussion,” said HS Phoolka.

Harsimrat Badal has alleged that Phoolka should reveal if he was arguing these cases as a social cause or to indirectly charge fee. She has alleged that Phoolka has been charging fee from the SGPC and DSGMC in the name of his juniors.

Phoolka said that in the past 30 years, he has not received any fee from anyone, in his name or of his juniors. “Can Harsimrat disclose names of the juniors,” he asked.
