NRI Held For Raping German Tourist In Goa

MAPUSA – A German woman wasallegedly raped by a non-resident Indian(NRI) yoga instructor in Mandrem.Pernem police have arrested KrishnaSharma of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh,who is based in Norway, in connectionwith the case. Sharma was held atDabolim airport as he was leaving thestate. Pernem police said the 33-year-oldGerman tourist complained that onMonday afternoon Sharma forcefullyhad sexual intercourse with her withouther consent.Sources said Sharma and the womanwere known to each other as theGerman, and some friends of hers, wereundergoing a yoga course conducted bySharma at his yoga centre in Mandrem.Police sources said Sharma and the victimmet at a music event at Anjuna onMonday afternoon.As they knew each other they spent sometime together and Sharma offered todrop the woman to her hotel inMandrem.Police said Sharma first took the womanto her room and allegedly had sexualintercourse with her without her consentand later he took her to his room wherehe again had sexual intercourse with herto which she had not consented.After this Sharma sped to the airportallegedly to leave the state fearing hisarrest. The German woman thenapproached Pernem police with her complaint.”We got information that theaccused was to leave the state via air fromDabolim airport. We intimated this to theairport police who detained him at theairport late Monday evening and ourteam brought the accused to Pernempolice station,” Pernem PI TusharLotlikar said. Sharma has been remandedto seven days police custody.Police sources said that Sharma’s familyis based in Norway and he was runningthe yoga course for many years in a rentedpremises in Junaswada, Mandrem.
