Poll Says High Housing Costs Have Vancouverites “Seriously Considering” Leaving Town

VANCOUVER – One in five Metro Vancouverites are very concerned about housing and traffic issues, according to poll results released Thursday – and most people surveyed are seriously considering leaving the region because of it.

The Canadian polling firm Angus Reid Globe surveyed 820 people living in Metro Vancouver, asking if families would consider moving away in search of more manageable costs of living, reported CTV News.

A staggering 79 per cent of people believe high housing costs are harming Metro Vancouver; nearly 90 per cent are concerned the next generation will not be able to afford to buy a home in Canada’s largest west coast city.

The poll divided Vancouverites into four categories: happy, comfortable, uncomfortable, and miserable. Interestingly, nearly all of the “miserable” people say they are seriously contemplating leaving because the costs of buying a home.

The majority of those polled suggested that the government should play a larger role in the housing market as a potential solution to the concerns of Vancouverites.
