Sikh Genocide Conference Held In Surrey On Same Day As India’s Independence Day Celebrations

SURREY – US and Canadian Sikh groups held a conference on Sikh Genocide – Past and Present, where speakers stated that  “Genocide of Sikhs in India still continues” today.

The conference held on the same day as India’s Independence Day celebrations on Wednesday August 15 brought out speakers like outspoken Vancouver professor Indira Prahst, the Chair, Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Langara College and Race and Ethnic Relations instructor who specializes in Sikh human rights issues, will present on the question of sovereignty.

“The objective of this presentation is to  interrogate the question of sovereignty and to create a space to critically engage on this question in light of the Sikhs’ social position as a religious minority and their relationship to the Indian Nation State in the past and in current geopolitical times.“ Prahst said.
