Surrey RCMP Issues Public Appeal For 20- Year-Old Hit-And- Run That Killed Elderly Indo- Canadian

SURREY – The Surrey RCMPhave issued a public appeal forinformation about the driver ina fatal 20-year-old hit and runcase that killed an elderly Indo-Canadian woman.On February 5th, 1994 justbefore 9:00pm, a woman leftthe Tim Horton’ s on 96thAvenue and King GeorgeBoulevard in Surrey, BritishColumbia. As she was driving inthe 13400 Block of 92ndAvenue she passed what shebelieved to be a body in a driveway;however she saw no vehiclesor people standing by.The woman decided to turnaround and return to where shesaw the body. She called 911 forhelp. She was now witness numberone in a case that would gounresolved for 20 years.Sixty-year-old Surrey residentGurbax Thind was found in adriveway in the 13400-block of92nd Avenue and was later pronounceddead at RoyalColumbian Hospital.“With this release, 20 years afterthe accident, our CriminalCollision Investigation Team(CCIT) is appealing to the publicto help solve this investigationand bring closure to thevictim’s family and loved ones,”said Surrey RCMP Cpl. BertPaquet. “While the vast majorityof CCIT’s cases are successfullyinvestigated, this oneremains unsolved. Someone outthere, whether it is the driver, apassenger or a friend, knowswho is responsible for this tragicaccident and we need tospeak with them.”Over the years, Serious Crimeinvestigators, Collision investigators,Forensic Specialists and Over the years, Serious Crimeinvestigators, Collision investigators,Forensic Specialists andBC Coroner’s Services haveworked tirelessly on this case.This investigation has also beenthe subject of several pressreleases and appeals to the publicincluding a segment onCrime Stoppers in 1994 to noavail. Police identified a personof interest early on in the investigation,but charges were neverlaid. Investigators found physicalevidence from the suspectvehicle and determined that itwas a grey 1987 GMC 4X4High Sierra 2500 pickup withred trim.
