Mandeep Paul Singh Ghangass “accused his girlfriend of checking out other guys,” according to police. Ghangass is scheduled for trial on Oct. 2.

SURREY – An allegedly jealous and violent Indo-Canadian man accused of punching his girlfriend in the face during an argument outside of a Marine Drive restaurant is scheduled to stand trial on charges of assault and uttering threats in October.

Charges against Mandeep Paul Singh Ghangass,  a 28-year-old Surrey resident , were sworn on June 6. According to police, the incident was reported on June 3, reported Peace Arch News.

White Rock RCMP Const. Janelle Shoihet said the victim, a 30-year-old Delta woman, told police the assault occurred at 11 p.m. June 1, and that there had been “ongoing issues” throughout the day.

The boyfriend “accused his girlfriend of checking out other guys,” Shoihet said.

At dinner, a verbal altercation apparently arose over paying for drinks. Things escalated when the woman didn’t want the man to drive home, due to alcohol impairment, Shoihet said.

“She got him to not drive… he went outside of the car and she threw the phone at him. It dropped and broke,” Shoihet said. “He got back in and punched her, once in the eye and once in the jaw.”

Ghangass is scheduled for trial on Oct. 2.
