Punjab’s New Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi Says He Will End Corruption

CHANDIGARH – Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi today said he would make Punjab corruption-free for which he wanted youngsters’ support. Addressing a job fair after a ceremony for Dr BR Ambedkar Museum at IK Gujral Punjab Technical University here, the CM said: “Either I or corruption will go.”

Channi said having started politics from the ground level, he was aware of contractors having to dole out up to 22 per cent commission to MC officials for projects. “This will not work. I know there are officers who will keep staring at you till the time you pay up. This will not be tolerated now,” he said.

“I will break this nexus. There are all sorts of people. There are some honest people too,” he said, adding he had the roadmap for Punjab ready.

Asserting that he was easy to access, Channi said, “I never keep my phone’s ringer off even if someone has to call at midnight.”

The CM said the state government would soon set up Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Management in collaboration with the IIM, Amritsar, at Kapurthala. Also, School of Ambedkar Thoughts and Bharat Ratna Dr Baba Sahib Ambedkar Centre for research would be set up in the Doaba region. — TNS
