Thousands Of Punjab Students Vow To Shun Drugs And Social Evils

Khadur Sahib – Tenth yearlycelebrations against HIV-AIDSand social evils were held at SriGuru Angad Dev College tomark World AIDS Day 2013.Thousands of students studyingin various educational institutesmanaged under Kaar Sewa KhadurSahib and Nishan-E-SikhiCharitable Trust vowed to shundrugs and social evils which leadto the deadly disease like HIVAIDS.After the rally attended bythousands of boys and girls, aspecial seminar was held whichwas addressed by various renownedpersonalities and expertson the subject.While addressing the gathering,the head of Kaar SewaKhadur Sahib Baba Sewa Singhsaid, “Everyone should make effortsto form a society sans drugaddiction and social evils for thecause of human welfare.” Deliveringkeynote address, globallyrenowned drug therapist andcommunity activist against HIVAIDSDr. Raghbir Singh Bainshailing from Canada said, “HIVAIDSis a deadly disease thatspreads all over the world as aresult of prostitution, flesh tradingand sharing drug needles. Hefurther said that youth shouldfollow the code of human conducttaught by Gurus, teachersand preachers to establish peaceand prosperity in the world”.Putting light on the figuresin this regard, Dr Bains said,“Approximately 4.5 Crore peopleare in the grip of this fataldisease in the world. Accordingto official figures of victims sufferingfrom this deadly diseasein Punjab, the number of AIDSpatients stand at 36778 but actualfigures are more horriblethan this, he addedDr. Bains further said thatteachers, preachers, parents, government,non-government organizationsand socio-religiousgroups must create awarenessabout HIV-AIDS by conductingseminars, conferences and usingInternet facilities. Youth mustbecome part of the solutionrather than problem, he added.Dr. Gurpal Singh Civil SurgeonTarn Taran said, “Ouryoung generation must respecttheir rich heritage for bettermentof the community. Hegave assurance to treat the victimsof AIDS belonging to thearea within his jurisdiction.”Dr. Narinder Singh, SeniorMedical Officer Khadur Sahib,put light on the reasons ofAIDS and measures to curb thisdeadly disease.Activists of Yaad FoundationPunjab also provide valuableinformation regarding HIVAIDS.SGAD College principal Dr.Surinder Bangar also presentedhis views and Director GurdialSingh Gill thanked the participants.
