VANCOUVER – South Asian actor B. K. Singh Rakhra is nominated for a 2012 Leo Award in the Best Performance by a Male in a Short Drama category, for his portrayal of the title role in Afternoon Tea. The film has a running time of 13 minutes, was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, and stars the local actor along with other Vancouver talent.

Afternoon Tea is a hard hitting story that clashes two different cultures and generations together but offers the hope and opportunity for change.” says Rakhra.

Rakhra plays the lead role of Samrat, in a film that is best described as a contemporary tale of generational and cultural differences with sensitivity and subtlety. Afternoon Tea follows an Indian grandfather, who has no family left and lives alone secluded from society. Unbeknownst to him, his life will change when a seemingly lost boy comes to his home asking to use his phone. He is unaware that this boy is not who he appears to be and holds a secret that will change him forever.

“It’s truly rewarding to be a part of a film that breaks stereotypes and portrays a unique perspective on repairing culturally damaged relationships.” says Rakhra “I hope that I can continue to be involved in films that have depth and meaning to characters I play.”

Born and raised in BC, B. K. Singh Rakhra has been involved in theater for decades starting back in 1974. Only recently has he switched over to film and television since 2008. In that short span of time he has acted in over 20 feature and short films, 65 TV serials, commercials, print modeling, and voice over campaigns. Credits for Rakhra include a role in the hit television series “Sanctuary”, also an episode on a television series “Psych”.
