PATIALA – Akali sarpanch Baljinder Singh, irked over the alleged delay in arresting another Akali sarpanch and his supporters in an attempt to murder case, alleged that the personal assistant of state Cabinet minister Surjit Singh Rakhra was shielding the accused.
At a press conference today, Baljinder, sarpanch of Govind Nagar Basti (Rajla village), and his friend Shamsher Singh alleged that Gurbhej Singh, sarpanch of Myal Khurd village in Samana, Ladu of Myal Khurd, Talwinder of Badshahpur and a few others had attacked them on October 7, 2014. They alleged that they opened fire on them and a bullet hit Shamsher in the leg.
Shamsher alleged that despite the fact that the police had registered an FIR in October itself, they were yet to arrest any of the accused as the PA to Rakhra, Minister for Rural Development & Panchayat, had asked the police not to initiate any action. They said they had met the SSP and Additional DGP (Crime), but to no avail. They threatened to go on a fast in front of the SSP’s office if no action was taken in the case before February 10.
Samana SHO Surinder Singh said a SIT had been formed to probe the case.
