BMA head Bisla has been in martial arts since he was 13 yrs old which was a few months after he immigrated to Canada.

Bisla said back then racism was a big problem he was teased, picked on and threatened and that’s when he thought he should learn self defence in order to protect himself.

He enrolled under Grand Master Jong Kim, who took Bislaunder his wing and has been his mentor ever since.

Bisla and Master Jong kim became very close and Bisla would come before and after classes to help set up and clean the gym to show how much he appreciated his mentor.

Bisla now has a 3rd degree black belt and has also studied Combative Jiu jitsu under Shian Tim Henry for over 5 years.

Some of Bisla’s accomplishments as a junior were: gold medals in Tiger Balm Competitions, Can-Am Westcoast Championships, Gold in the WKC division from 1988-1992 and in 2003 he won gold in the heavy weight division in sports jiu jitsu.

Bisla is also a veteran of the “king of the cage” fights, his last “king of the cage” fight was in Nanaimo in 2007. He also won a gold medal in the World Tae kwon do Federation (WTF) in the instructors division.

Bisla has been fighting professionally for over 20 yrs and doesn’t plan to quit fighting anytime soon, he’s planning to fight a pro-boxing bout in the next few months. For which he is constantly training and expanding his boxing knowledge from, dear friend and fellow coach, Jerry Veerasamy. Veerasamy has extensive knowledge of boxing and has trained many pro-boxers in Las Vegas.

Bisla’s inspiration was self defence and now is to educate the youth in martial arts and that it doesn’t promote violence but discipline and peace. When asked why parents should enroll their kids in martial arts activities.

Bisla says: “Being involved in such a disciplined environment is a great confidence builder for our youth.  They also enjoy the classes we provide and look forward to coming to the gym. Most of all it keeps our youth busy and healthy in a structured atmosphere and keeps them out of trouble.”

In order to showcase abilities and accomplishments of the fighters in Western Canada Bisla held “Fight Night 2011” on April 8th.  These fights were the first of its kind in the city of Surrey and within the South Asain Community.
