SUVA – Smoking and drug abuse continues to be a problem in schools and teachers are going through training to address the problem.

While analysis continues for last year, the National Substance Abuse Committee revealed that in 2009 out of the 202,805 students right around the country, there were 72 drug related cases and 251 students caught smoking.

Apart from smoking and drugs, drinking and sexual offences against students were also highly reported.

Under a new approach, the Education Ministry has started workshops and forums to assist teachers in identifying students at risk and to assist them while school prefects are also going through similar training.
