JAIPUR – A single judge bench of Rajasthan high court has came down heavily on state police for its laxity in investigating gang rape cases and made strong remarks against the functioning and approach of police in such matters.

“This court has seen laxity of police in more than 10 different cases of gang rapes where they have not acted promptly and the victims have been forced to knock doors of this court. Some sensibility is required to be shown towards such cases and it is owing to the approach of the police that this country ends up producing bandit queen,” observed Justice R S Chauhan.

“It hardly needs to be reitrated that one of the burning issue of this nation today is gang rapes. Its a fact which must be obvious for the police to have acted more cautiously”observed Bench in its order.

The observation and order came on a petition filed by father of a gang rape victim from sikar where four persons allegedly raped her. The FIR was lodged by the father on feburary, 2011 but no arrest was made till in feburary 2013 when court came heavily on police.

“We have seen today’s Times of India report on rape of a girl whose sister was also earlier raped by same sets of rapists. Police does noting and let the criminals loose till the accused comitts rapes again and again or till the victim knocks door of this court. Police must understand that honour of women cannot be compromised. Do police wish to see roadshows like delhi in Jaipur also before they wake up,” observed Justice Chauhan.

“This court will not hesitate in passing stricture against the investigation officer as also the entire police force if laxity is shown any more in gang rape matters,” bench told SP, Sikar, Satveer singh who appeared pursuant to court orders.

“When Bhanwari devi case came to forefront we read someone quoting Rajasthan as Rapisthan we wish that Rajasthan does not get converted actually into ‘Rapis’than and direct SP Sikar to arrest fleeing away accused named Ramlal within two weeks positively and report to this court on 17 april,” ordered the Bench.
