Police are asking what`s the motive after they arrested and charged Harbans Pandher with second-degree murder in his 64-year-old wife Jaswant Pandher’s death.

SURREY – Why would an elderly Indo-Canadian man kill his wife on an auspicious day for his Sikh community where they were marking the sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur?

Police are also asking the same question – what`s the motive – after they arrested and charged Harbans Pandher with second-degree murder in his 64-year-old wife Jaswant Pandher’s death on Monday .

The death is puzzling but there are many domestic volcanoes, not just in Surrey but everywhere, that are ready to burst with tragedy.

Harbans Pandher  was arrested Sunday after police were called to a home in the 6900-block of 152nd Street at around 1 p.m where they discovered Jaswant Pandher’s body.

Investigators say her injuries were consistent with foul play.

“At this point, a motive is unclear, but it does appear to be domestic-related, and that’s all I can tell you at this stage,” IHIT spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Pound said in a news conference.

Pound said police have not encountered any other domestic issues at the residence and are trying to uncover a motive, reported CTV news.

Officers could be seen cordoning off the area around the home on Sunday.

Neighbours were visibly in shock after learning the news, and some said Pandher was a grandmother who lived in the house with her family.

“Something so close to home, it is really terrifying, horrible,” said Jas Gill, who lives two houses down from the crime scene.

Neighbours told CBC News the home was occupied by a large extended family.
