Clark Will Have To Hold A By-Election To Get Foot In House But NDP Said It Will Fight Her Vigorously!

VANCOUVER – Christy Clark officially lost her seat by a large margin this week and will have to look elsewhere for a seat in the legislature.

But NDP is not going to allow her to have a cake walk as it will fight her campaign vigorously wherever she decides to seek the seat.

Elections BC delivered the official results in Vancouver-Point Grey and with all of the absentee ballots in, the premier has lost her seat by just over 1,000 votes.  She’s been defeated by the NDP’s David Eby.

University of the Fraser Valley Political Scientist Hamish Telford says Christy Clark now has to make that move to oust a recently elected MLA in a Liberal safe-riding, as difficult as that may be.

“I presume she’s already been having those conversations and a final decision will have to be made,” he told News1130. “Somebody will dutifully step down and a by-election will be called presumably for sometime later this summer.”

“She’s had sometime to sound people out, already, and I would imagine already she’s narrowed it down to two or three, if not to one,” Telford adds.

After the final vote count this week across BC, the NDP picked up one seat by just 35 votes in Coquitlam-Mallardville but the party and its winning candidate Selena Robinson will have to wait till next Tuesday for a judicial recount to take place at the Supreme Court to be officially declared the winner.

In the close race in Surrey-Fleetwood, the NDP’s Jagrup Brar could not make up the 278 vote difference from the more than 1000 absentee ballots and that victory remains with the BC Liberal winner Peter Fassbender.
