SURREY – The 30 year old South Asian man found dead in Surrey’s Joe Brown Park on Wednesday had a long criminal record.

Ezar Ahmed Khan, the victim of what police are calling the latest targeted attack, has been in the news before.

Khan, who is from Surrey, did time after brutally beating a 47 year old man in the head with a golf club, leaving the father of two with brain damage and speech impairment, reported CKNW.

The incident, which happened about eight years ago, involved the victim asking some  rowdy young people to quiet down outside his home on East 40th when he was assaulted.

Khan was only 22 years old at the time of that assault. Khan also has a criminal record dating back to 2010.

But police said Thursday that Khan is unlikely to have a connection to gangs.

Surrey RCMP responded to a call of a body found in Joe Brown Park, located at 123 Street and New McLellan Road in Surrey, just after 7:30am on Wednesday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was then called in. IHIT is still trying to figure out the motive, but say evidence suggests that this was not a random attack, but targeted towards him.

IHIT continues to investigate this murder and determine a motive. At this point evidence suggests that this was not a random attack, but targeted towards Ezar Khan.

Khan’s body was found by joggers in the area who located him and immediately called police. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“The male has yet to be identified, and although the information we can release is minimal, we can say foul play appears to be a factor in his death,” says Sgt. Jennifer Pound.

The Coroner attended the scene and IHIT investigators, along with Surrey RCMP and the entire area surrounding the park was canvassed.

IHIT continues to ask anyone who may have information about the homicide of Ezar Khan to contact the IHIT Tipline at 1-877-551-4448, or, to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477
