SUVA – A bus driver escaped death after the Dee Cees bus he was driving smashed into an apartment block on Gaji Rd in Suva’s Jittu Estate.
Apartment owner Talat Mehmood said the accident occurred about 9am.
“I was sitting in my living room and heard a big bang and then I saw the front of the bus stuck inside the apartment below mine,” he said.
“Luckily the tenants downstairs had gone to work, if not it could have been deadly,” Mr Mehmood said.
Witness Tarin Ali said he was shocked when he saw the bus bumping into the apartment wall.
“I thought that someone was going to be badly injured. It seemed like driver couldn’t control the bus, that’s what it looked like.”
Police spokesman Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed the police were aware of the accident and investigations had begun.
