HOSHIARPUR – The CIA staff of the police has arrested a drug peddler with Rs 25 lakh cash and 500 gm heroine. According to the police, he had collected the amount from the people to whom he had supplied the contraband. He was produced before the court, which sent him to two-day police remand.

The accused was nabbed when CIA’s Assistant Sub-Inspector Anil Puar, who was on patrol in the Taragarh area, received information that a drug peddler was supplying narcotics in a car.

He laid a blockade on the Taragarh turn and nabbed the accused.

DSP Harvinder Singh Dalli said during interrogation it came to light that Vinod Sharma, who was running a money exchange shop in the name of Sai Money Exchange, was not new in the contraband trade. He was there since 2001. Earlier, 1 kg heroin was recovered from him in Phillaur.

According to DSP Dalli, Vinod used to supply the contraband to various people in the area by bringing it from the border area.

“Further investigation is on and we are trying to trace out the names of the people to whom he used to supply narcotics. We are expecting bigger revelations in the case,” he said.
