PATIALA – A Facebook account helped the Patiala police in tracking gynaecologist Ravdeep Kaur, who went missing on December 15 while on parole in a murder case. She has been arrested from near the Nepal-Uttarakhand border, where she was living on rent in a single-room house.

Sources said Ravdeep had shifted to Kasipur village in Uttarakhand where she was using a fake name to escape the police. She was planning to shift abroad, they said. Ravdeep, along with a granthi, were sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering a judge and in December, during her parole, she had escaped leaving a suicide note to fool the police.

A team led by Superintendent of Police (D) Jaskiran Teja and Inspector Bikramjit Brar tracked Ravdeep after she tried to contact one of her friends in Patiala through her Facebook account by a different name. “We were keeping an eye on some of her local contacts and a few days back, she was found interacting with one of them through Facebook. We traced the internet number and found her location,” said Brar. The police have procured a one-day remand of Ravdeep from a local court.

Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmeet Chauhan said Ravdeep was carrying Rs 12.9 lakh in cash and diamond and gold worth lakhs of rupees. “However, she was staying in a one-room accommodation in a poor colony in a bid to escape the police,” said Chauhan, adding that every time during parole, Ravdeep collected ID cards against fake names.

Sources said she was trying to leave the country using her fake identity proofs. Police sources confirmed the accused had undergone a major facial therapy at the clinic of a leading doctor in Patiala. She had visited the doctor a couple of days before she left a suicide note and went missing.
