Sikh-Canadian Cyclist Killed By Hit And Run Driver In Brampton

Hardeep Singh Pahra, father of two young children, was fatally struck by a vehicle on Steeles Ave. E. between Albion Rd. and Finch Ave. W. last Thursday.

BRAMPTON – A Sikh-Canadian male cyclist was killed by a hit-and-run driver on Brampton’s Steeles Ave. E. before dawn last Thursday morning.

At approximately 5:50 a.m., Hardeep Singh Pahra, 30, was riding his bicycle near Steeles Avenue E. and Albion Rd. when he was struck by an unknown driver who fled the scene, according to Peel Police, reported Toronto Star newspaper.

Police have narrowed the frame of the collision to a five-minute window between 5:50 a.m. to 5:55 a.m. Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance for anyone who was in the area between 5:45 a.m. and 6 a.m. to return to the area to speak with police.

Hardeep Singh Pahra was a father of two young children and had recently immigrated to Canada.

Peel and Toronto police and Toronto paramedics were called at 6 a.m. to Steeles Ave. E. between Albion Rd. and Finch Ave. W., where Pahra was pronounced dead on scene.

It was “quite dark and it would have been difficult to see” at the time of the collision, Peel police spokesperson Lilly Fitzpatrick said, adding that it was possible the driver of the vehicle may not have realized what had happened.

Police have no description of the vehicle but say they believe the cyclist was travelling west when the collision happened.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact police at 416-808-5300 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
