NEW DELHI – An Indian man who went into hospital with stomach pains had to have a hysterectomy when doctors found he had a uterus.
The man, a farmer and father of two, is identified only as Ryalu by the Telegraph, which reported the strange surgery.
Doctors suspected he had a hernia, but when they opened him up they found he had a nearly complete female reproductive system: uterus, ovaries, Fallopian tubes, a cervix and what appeared to be undeveloped vaginal tissue.
The patient had been living a normal life, as he also has “functional” male genitals, Dr. Pramod Kumar Shrivastava told the paper.
Ryalu is recovering in hospital.
