TORONTO – Indo-Canadian trucker from Ontario is in custody after being busted by border officials with a truck load of cocaine.

The RCMP charged Ashvinder Singh Kundi of Guelph, with possession for the purposes of trafficking and importation of a controlled substance.

Border officers say they found more than 20 kilograms of cocaine inside Kundi’s  truck that was attempting to cross into Canada at the Ambassador Bridge last week.

The Canada Border Services Agency says the commercial truck was flagged for a secondary inspection at the Windsor-Detroit crossing on Sept. 16.

During that inspection, border officers found 20 bricks of cocaine, which had a combined weight of 24.3 kilograms.

Kundi, a 45-year-old truck driver from Guelph, Ont., has been charged with numerous drug smuggling offences and was due to appear in a Windsor court on Friday.

Earlier this year, border officers seized 52 kilograms of suspected cocaine from a truck that was coming through the Ambassador Bridge in July.
