Surrey RCMP informed about a shooting in the Fraser Heights area that sent two people to hospital.
On February 8, 2022 at 11:30 pm, Surrey RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 16800-block of 104 Avenue. A male and a female were located in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to hospital, the female in serious condition, the male with life-threatening injuries.The male victim succumbed to his injuries and the investigation has been turned over to Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).
Initial indications are that the shooting is related to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict. Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken conduct of the investigation and is being supported by partner agencies including CFSEU-BC. Due to the life-threatening injuries of one of victims, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has also been engaged.
“We understand that there is concern within our community regarding the ongoing violence,” said Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer Cst. Sarbjit K. Sangha. “Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team (SGET) along with CFSEU-BC are working day and night to gather intelligence and target those that pose the highest risk to our community.”
SGET has been deployed with an aggressive plan to target criminals who put the community at risk. This plan prioritizes those individuals who pose the highest risk to public safety because of their actions, affiliations, involvement with gangs, and drug trafficking in the province.
Since January 1, 2022, SGET has conducted:
· 45 establishment checks for the Inadmissible Patron Program (IPP) resulting in the ejection of 1 person associated to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict (LMDGC)
· 53 Outlaw Motorcycle Gang clubhouse checks
· 79 curfew checks of LMDGC participants currently living in Surrey
· 25 drug investigations that resulted in seizure of fentanyl, cocaine, crack cocaine and meth.
