SURREY, BC – The latest round of consultations hosted by Translink and the Cities of Surrey and New Westminster about the proposed Pattullo Bridge upgrades came to a close on June 28th.
Surrey-North MP Jasbir Sandhu wants to keep the dialog going, now focusing on the role the federal government can play in the review and renewal process. “When I attended the public consultations on the Pattullo Bridge, I noticed that so far there has been zero participation from the federal government”, said Sandhu. “I would like to encourage a collaboration of perspectives from all levels of government along with Translink and regional stakeholders.”
Sandhu would like to open this dialog up to the community, to find out from local residents what they envision the role of the federal government to be in the Pattullo review process. “I believe that the federal government has a role to play in regional infrastructure planning and development. Residents have told me that they would like to see more involvement at the federal level, and I want to open this discussion up to residents of Surrey for feedback”. Sandhu has taken an active role in the Pattullo Bridge consultations on behalf of his constituents of Surrey North, and has publicly asked the Minister of Transportation about the proposal to toll the bridge to recoup the upgrade costs.
Sandhu will be hosting a public town hall meeting on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at 2 pm at the City Centre Library, Room 120, to further discuss the role of the federal government in the Pattullo Bridge consultations.
