NEW YORK – With a networth of $21 billion (approx1,29,150 crore), Mukesh Ambaniretained his title as India’swealthiest person for the sixthyear in a row, according to U.S.-based business magazine Forbes.As per Forbes’ annual listof India’s 100 richest, releasedon Tuesday, the country’s100 richest persons saw theircollective wealth rise by a modest3 percent from a year ago to$259 billion (15,92,850 crore).NRI steel tycoon LakshmiMittal ($16 billion — 98,400crore) continued to hold thesecond position.Sun Pharma’s DilipShanghvi jumped to third placewith about 50 percent surgein his wealth to $13.9 billion(85,485 crore), pushing IT czarAzim Premji to fourth place($13.8 billion — 84,870 crore).“Growth in wealth waslacklustre due to India’sstumbling economy, which hasbeen hit by inflation and a fallingrupee,” Forbes said.Amid the sluggishness,Reliance Industries chiefAmbani and ArcelorMittal’sMittal saw no change in theirrespective net worths, butpharmaceutical industry titanShanghi managed to buck thetrend with a surge of $4.7 billion(28,905 crore) in his wealthPremji’s wealth also rose by$1.6 billion (9,840 crore)Pallonji Mistry, patriarchof construction giant ShapoorjiPallonji Group, which is thebiggest shareholder in Tata Sons,has moved down one place tofifth rank with a net worth of$12.5 billion (76,875 crore).His younger son CyrusMistry last year succeeded RatanTata as the new Tata group head.NRI businessmen Hindujabrothers have moved up to sixthplace ($9 billion — 55,350 crore),from their 9th position last year.
