The Vancouver Heritage Foundation Places that Matter Plaque Project honoured the site of the first Sikh Gurdwara in North America by placing a commemorative plaque at 1866 West 2nd Avenue in Vancouver, the site of where the first Sikh Gurdwara was built in North America in 1908. Many dignitaries, including Sikh pioneers like judge and former BC Liberal cabinet minister Wally Oppal joined Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson for the unveiling last Saturday.
