NEW DELHI – With the storm created by Anna Hazare’s arrest refusing to die down, BJP on Wednesday bluntly told Congress in Rajya Sabha that power is not immortal and “the more arrogant you are, the earlier it disappears.”

Leader of the Opposition Arun Jaitley also took a dig at the ruling party over the Sonia Gandhi-led National Advisory Council saying if its recommendations are not ignored even by ministers, why not some suggestions from another group of citizens be accepted

“Power is not immortal. The more arrogant you are, the earlier it disappears. Please bear that in mind,” Jaitley said in the Upper House initiating the debate on the Hazare issue after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made a statement on it.

“What is the National Advisory Committee? It is a group of citizens. You are using them effectively to draft your laws. Your Ministers even don’t have the courage to start opposing the laws that they are drafting. So, if another group of citizen says it has a view point and please consider it, it wants to campaign, crusade, they are not replacing Parliament,” Jaitley said.

He argued even the laws drafted by NAC will come up before government or Parliament.
