SURREY – – Prof Mohan Singh Memorial Foundation of Canada held a public meeting in Surrey,
British Columbia at the Grand Taj Banquet hall to remember and mourn Punjabi cultural icon Jagdev
Singh Jassowal who passed away Monday evening in Ludhiana.
Sahib Singh Thind, President of Prof. Mohan Singh Memorial Foundation (Canada), expressed
profound grief and sorrow over the death of literature, cultural, heritage and arts ambassador
of Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat. Thind stated that ‘we have lost a friend and a mentor’ who
will be missed not only in Canada but also around the world. Furthermore Thind, stated
“Jassowal sahib championed the arts, heritage, and cultural of Punjab everywhere he went.”
Thind told a large gather that it was “Jassowal sahib who was instrumental in establishing Prof.
Mohan Singh Memorial Foundation of Canada in 1990”. Jassowal attended the ‘Gadri Babian
da Mela’ couple of times as a guest of the Foundation.
NDP MP Jasbir Sandhu, former MP Sukh Dhaliwal, Dr. Gulzar Cheema, Jagmohan Singh, Naveed
Wariach, President, PCCA, Ijaz Chatha, Vinay Sharma, Umrao Clair, Happy Deol, Jasbir Romana,
Kultar Thaira, Gogi Bains, Rashpal Thind, Raminder Bhullar, Mangal Sherpuri, Gary Thind,
Surrey School Board Trustee, Kiranpal Grewal and Parminder Thind, also expressed sorrow and
grief at the passing of Jagdev Singh Jassowal. Many other speakers shared their interaction
with Jassowal .
Expressing grief and sorrow, Sukhwinder Singh Cheema, secretary of Prof. Mohan Singh
Memorial Foundation of Canada, recommitted to carry on the work of Jassowal.
