“..Making racist comments in front of your nine-year-old — especially in an ethnically diverse community like ours — there’s just no time or place for that here,” said Abbotsford police spokesman Const. Ian MacDonald.

ABBOTSFORD – Two racist comments spewing Abbotsford fathers were fined $200 each after caught them raging at each other while driving erratically — with children in their vehicles.

Abbotsford traffic officer saw one vehicle pass another over a double-solid line on Downes Road near Gladwin Road around noon last Saturday.

The officer followed the vehicles west on Downes and saw the person who had been passed accelerate and make hand gestures at the person who passed him, reported the Province newspaper.

“Apparently the driver took exception to being passed,” said Abbotsford police spokesman Const. Ian MacDonald.

The two vehicles stopped at a light at Clearbrook Road and the men yelled at each other, using obscenities and making racist comments.

“You’re not only putting yourself at risk, but you’re also putting a child at risk. That’s a concern to us,” MacDonald said. “Plus, making racist comments in front of your nine-year-old — especially in an ethnically diverse community like ours — there’s just no time or place for that here.”

The men, whose identities and names were not released, received tickets for crossing a double-solid line, obstructing traffic and disobeying a traffic control device. In the end, MacDonald said, they were fined more than $200 each.
