SURREY –  One Surrey’s mayoral candidate Barinder Rasode said Linda Hepner and Surrey First proved once again they are out of touch with reality and unable to deal with rising crime in Surrey. Rasode made the comments following this week’s  televised CBC mayoral debate.

“There is nothing the matter with the City of Surrey. This is a safe community,” said Hepner during the debate.

“Linda Hepner and Surrey First have absolutely no credibility on solving the crime issue for the residents of Surrey because they continue to ignore and deny the growing crime problem,” Rasode said. “They are refusing to listen to residents and law enforcement experts who say the city needs help and their wait-and-see approach is not working.”

Last year, there were a record number of murders in Surrey and new statistics show that total crime is up by 21 per cent over last year, property crime is up 27 per cent, and attempted murder, abduction, kidnapping, auto theft, and fraud have all skyrocketed.

Rasode has been calling for more police officers and new public safety investments for over a year, as have law enforcement professionals, including the Officer in Charge of the Surrey RCMP.
