SURREY – On Saturday, March 16th Surrey RCMP participated in the ‘Focus on Seniors Forum’ presented in Punjabi at the Fleetwood Community Centre and spoke to attendees there about a range of topics including personal safety.

Approximately 100 seniors attended the forum which is part of a larger initiative by the City of Surrey aimed at connecting seniors to resources in the community. The forums have been presented in multiple languages throughout the city and have involved a number of agencies including the Surrey RCMP, Surrey Fire Services, Fraser Health, and the BC Securities Commission.

“Being able to connect with seniors in their language of choice and provide them with useful information about policing and crime prevention in their community was a very gratifying experience,” says Surrey RCMP Inspector Manny Mann who participated along with fellow officer Inspector Shawn Gill. “It was also heartwarming to hear many of them tell us how proud they were to see us as senior officers with the RCMP and of the Indo Canadian community.”

The next seniors forum is aimed at the Korean community and will be held on Saturday, April 20th at the Fraser Heights Community Centre.
