PATIALA – The rift within the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Patiala district committee has further widened as one of the factions has sought the resignation of district convener Jarnail Singh Manu for his alleged anti-party activities.

Manu had recently raised his voice against Patiala MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi and sought his resignation. He had alleged that the MP had become arrogant and was drifting away from the party ideology. Earlier, Dr Gandhi too had demanded Manu’s expulsion while alleging that he was causing friction in the district unit.

The war of words began after the MP sided with senior AAP leaders Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan and criticised the manner in which they were expelled. Committee member Dr Shivraj Singh Kamboj had said while 13 of the total 27 members on the panel had already signed the letter seeking Manu’s resignation, five others had given verbal assurance.

“How can Manu seek our chosen MP’s resignation without consulting us? He asked us for organising a rally where we wanted to invite Punjab AAP convener SS Chhotepur. But the next day he held a conference and spoke against Dr Gandhi,” said Kuldeep Kaur and Satish Sharma, committee members.
