SURREY – On Friday, November 4th at 7pm, the Surrey Civic Coalition will be hosting another Forum for the Trucking community.  The main focus of the forum is to address the on-going truck parking issue in Surrey and also give the truckers a platform to discuss any other issues they may be experiencing.

With over thousands of truck drivers registered in Surrey, there are limited parking options available.Rina Gill, SCC Council candidate who first brought this issue to the SCC’s attention years ago, said she is excited about the possibility of opening up hundreds of acres of truck parking for those who are so desperately looking for space.
“This has been a frustrating and costly exercise for the approximately 9,100 independent truckers registered in Surrey,” Gill said. “Truckers have been telling me that they have been frustrated by the delay, and that they want answers now,” she said.

In February 2009, after the last election, Councillor Bob Bose introduced a motion to allow for more truck parking in South Westminster. The motion proposed to amend the zoning South of the Pattullo Bridge by deleting the IL-1 zone in its entirety, and will rezone the properties affected to IL zoning, which allows for truck parking.Without a majority on Council supporting this motion, it could not be carried forward.

The forum will educate the trucking community in further detail on SCC’s solution and how the trucking community can help carry this motion forward.  To register for the upcoming Forum, please call the SCC office:               604 593 5410or email [email protected]
