SURREY – Surrey RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a South Asian man who is suspected to be responsible for a number of recent sandwich store robberies in Surrey.
On February 3rd at approximately 6:45pm, Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a robbery at a Subway restaurant in the 8000 block of King George Boulevard. The suspect brandished a knife and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
Police believe the same suspect may be responsible for five other robberies involving the same sandwich chain in the Newton, Guildford, and City Centre areas of Surrey last week.
The suspect is described as a South Asian male, early to mid 20’s, 5’5, slim build, right handed, wearing a black hoodie (‘Nike’ in red on the front), black pants, and Nike Jordan Blasé running shoes. He may be associated to an early 2000’s four door silver vehicle, possibly a Honda. In some of the incidents a knife was produced but not used.
“Certainly we are concerned given the frequency of these incidents,” says Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet. “Although no one has been injured, we remind merchants and the public about taking the necessary precautions when facing a robbery threat.”
In the event of a robbery, remain calm and cooperate with the robber’s demands, never argue. Never assume a robber isn’t armed and try to pay close attention to what they look like. Try to observe the direction of travel of the suspect and call police when they have departed and it is safe to do so.
