Dear Editor:
I would like to extend my sincere thanks for your paper’s coverage of the recent municipal elections across BC. As municipal politics don’t often receive the same level of attention as provincial and federal matters, it was nice to see so many in the South Asian media doing their journalistic best to shed light on the local issues and candidates that have such a direct impact on our day-to-day lives.
In particular, Boards of Education, and the Trustees elected to serve on them, benefit when communities are kept informed about the challenges and successes of their respective School Districts. Engaging the public in our public education system, as a means of improving student achievement, is indeed one of the key responsibilities of a School Trustee. So, to the readers, as a newly elected Trustee, I encourage your feedback, welcome your ideas, value your participation, and will work hard with my colleagues over the next three years to justify your trust.
