Surrey RCMP are investigating the shooting of a man and woman on New Year’s Day.

SURREY – Shots rang in the New Year in the Indo-Canadian dominated Newton neighbourhood, in what is believed to be the first shooting in the region in 2013.

Police attended a call for shots fired in the 5800-block 132 Street on Jan. 1 at 3:45 a.m. to find two people who had been shot.

A 44-year-old man and a woman, 20 were both hit by shots from the gun.

Both were taken to hospital.

The man was soon released, but as of Wednesday morning, the woman was still in hospital care.

The suspect has not been captured by police, but they believe they have a suspect in mind.

It’s believed the two victims and the suspect were all known to each other and that the violence stemmed from an earlier disagreement.

The shooting is believed to be targeted and not gang related.

Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
