Senad Cejvan, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a legal permanent resident of Missouri, was extradited to the Dutch Caribbean island of Saba to face charges in the April 2015 killing of 24-year-old Kavya Guda of Fremont, California. Saba authorities had earlier charged an award-winning medical student from Edmonton in Guda’s killing but judge released him for custody as there was a lack of evidence against 27-year-old Omar J. Elkadry. Elkadry, who had professed his innocence and said the publicity had ruined his life, was arrested June 1, 2015 and was held in custody on the nearby island of Bonaire but was released.
MIAMI – A US resident has been extradited to the Dutch Caribbean island of Saba to face charges in the April 2015 killing of an Indian-origin medical student.
Dutch Caribbean law enforcement officials said on Sunday that the suspect will face charges that include murder, rape and possession of child pornography.
The Dutch announcement identified the suspect only by his initials. But US officials previously identified him as 31-year-old Senad Cejvan, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a legal permanent resident of Missouri.
Cejvan was a student at the Saba University School of Medicine with the victim, 24-year-old Kavya Guda of Fremont, California, a native of India.
Authorities say he abruptly left the Dutch island after she was found strangled and investigators found DNA evidence linking him to the crime. They say nearly 10,000 images of child pornography were later found on a computer he left behind.
The medical school is a major presence on the tiny volcanic island, which has fewer than 2,000 inhabitants and is a special municipality of the Netherlands.
