Burnaby RCMP Const. Harinder Paul Singh Pabla, who has 16 years of police experience, was found not guilty of assault involving an incident that occurred inside the Langley Shopping mall on Dec. 31, 2011, when he was off-duty. Victim Jessica Olive kicked Pabla in the shin and hit him with her purse after he followed her into the mall following a dispute over parking spot. She claims that without warning, Pabla struck her in the face but Judge James Jardine acquitted Pabla of the charge on August 29 after a three day trial.

LANGLEY – An Indo-Canadian cop was the real victim, having his parking spot carelessly taken by a woman who claimed she didn’t see him waiting but after he followed her into the Langley shopping mall on new year’s eve in 2011, he was charged with assault.

Victim Jessica Olive kicked Paul Singh Pabla, a 16-year veteran of the RCMP, in the shin and hit him with her purse after he followed her into the mall. She claims that without warning, Pabla struck her in the face but Judge James Jardine acquitted Pabla of the charge on August 29 after a three day trial.

At the trial, Pabla’s lawyer said his client was simply acting in self-defence when the so-called victim claimed he struck her in the face. And the judge agreed with the defence in acquitting Pabla.

“She assaulted me, and that too with a weapon,” Pabla told the LINK on Wednesday. “As the judge noted, she was clearly the aggressor.”

Pabla said the kicks were so severe that they have left permanent nerve damage.

“I’m glad that the decision has come out in my favour as it took a long time winding through the courts but I’m left with permanent effect from the injuries I suffered,” said Pabla, adding that his lawyer was ready to go to trial last year but the judge delayed it.
