NORTH DELTA – Two Indo-Canadians were shot and roughed up by several assailants in the strip mall on the Delta side of the Surrey-Delta old Punajbi market on Tuesday night.

One man was shot and another beaten in a robbery at a Delta jewelry store.

Two Indo-Canadian men were leaving a jewelry store in the 9300-block Scott Road on Tuesday night at 6:20, when they were approached by two to three other men who attempted to rob them.

An altercation took place, and one of the victims was beaten and the other one shot.

The suspects took off in a car of unknown description, which headed southbound through the parking lot.

They were taken to hospital and have since been released.

Delta police would not disclose where the men were from, or where on the body the man was shot.

Police were expected to be canvassing local businesses to get a description of the suspects or their vehicle.

Const. Ciaran Feenan said police were called to the strip mall at about 6:20 p.m. in response to shots fired.

Upon arrival, police found one man suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound and another from injuries resulting from a “physical altercation” that took place before the shooting, Feenan said.

“It appears that two, possibly three suspects attempted to rob the victims as they left a local store at the strip mall,” Feenan said. “The suspects immediately fled the scene in a vehicle southbound through the parking lot.”
