TORONTO – The nominationsfor the RBC Top 25Canadian Immigrant Awards of2014 are now open.For the sixth year, CanadianImmigrant magazine and titlesponsor RBC want to recognizeand celebrate the stories andachievements of outstandingCanadian immigrants whoinspire newcomers andCanadians alike.Some of the winners from previousyears includedancer/choreographer Wen WeiWang, entrepreneur and communityleader Zahra Al-Harazi,NBA superstar Steve Nash, formerGovernor General ofCanada Adrienne Clarksonand many more, including entrepreneurs,artists and communityvolunteers.This national people’s choiceaward is unique in that it allowsCanadians to first nominate andthen vote directly for individualswho have made a differencesince their arrival in Canada.More than 31,000 votes fromacross Canada were cast in the2013 awards program.“Nominating someone as a topCanadian immigrant providespeople with an opportunity torecognize role models who havemade a difference in, or whohave made a significant contributionto this country,” saidChristine Shisler, Director,Multicultural Markets, RBC.“We have seen some incrediblepast winners who have madesignificant contributions, andwe can’t wait to hear this year’smotivating and inspiring stories.”A nominee can be someonewho has moved to Canada and,since immigrating, has contributedto the diversity and successof this country and/or itspeople.Achievements can be either professionalor personal. Nomineesmust hold landed immigrant(Permanent Resident) or citizenstatus in Canada, and mustreside in Canada.“The RBC Top 25 CanadianImmigrant Awards recognizepeople who have shared theirpassions for Canada as theyearned significant achievementsand realized their dreams,” saidJohn Roth, Vice President forChevrolet in Canada. “TheChevrolet Ingenuity Award willfurther recognize the efforts ofa truly inspirational individual.”
