Medical Practitioners Protest Near Punjab Finance Minister Dhindsa’s House

SANGRUR – Members of the Sangrur district unit of Medical Practitioners Association Punjab, led by district president Anwar Bhasaur, here began hunger strike near the residence of Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa in support of their demands.

The medical practitioners are up in arms against the state government as it has not been recognising those medical practitioners who are registered in other states.

Bhasaur said they had met Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at least 40 times for the recognition of registration of thousands of medical practitioners registered in other states as they had been imparting medical services in rural as well as urban areas. He said every time a false promise was made to them.

Bhasaur urged the state government to register all such medical practitioners in Punjab by finding a solution as many of them had been practising in villages and towns for over two decades. He also said that the state government knew that the registration of medical practitioners had been stopped in 1963, so it should be opened immediately by it.

Bhasaur said they would observe a hunger strike daily near Dhindsa’s residence till December 10.

Members of the association from one block would observe hunger strike daily and on December 11, there would be a district-level rally, he added.

He also announced that in case their demands were not met, they would organise a ‘pucca morcha’ in Khadoor Sahib Assembly constituency whenever a byelection is held there.

Other demands of the association include training to medical practitioners after fixing eligibility, enactment of Medical Practitioners Act, right to impart medical facilities to patients on the basis of experience.
