UK High Commission Office In Chandigarh Inaugurated

CHANDIGARH – British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond inaugurated the British Deputy High Commission at Elante Mall office complex here.

The Secretary said the Punjabi Diaspora had a huge representation in the UK and the Deputy High Commission would facilitate Punjab residents in a major way.UK

He said in the past one decade, about 2.5 lakh Indian students had visited the UK for various degree courses.

“The UK’s partnership with India is indispensable for both countries’ prosperity and security. The UK now has more diplomatic missions in India than in any other nation,” Hammond said.

“Our partnership is deeply rooted in our overlapping histories, cultures and values. I am particularly pleased to be opening our new commission in Chandigarh,” he added.

The Secretary, on his first visit to India as the foreign minister, will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in New Delhi.
