International students from India have become victims of unprovoked attacks throughout Canada.
In a recent tragic incident, Gurvinder Nath, a 24-year-old man from Brampton, who came to Canada in 2021 as an international student, has died a tragic death, after succumbing to his injuries.
According to Peel Region police Nath was a food delivery driver who was working in the area of Britannia Road and Creditview Road, in the City of Mississauga. Upon arriving at the delivery address, the victim was confronted by unknown suspects who attempted to take his vehicle when a physical altercation occurred.
The unknown suspects fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle leaving the victim at the side of the road with life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to a trauma center where on July 14, 2023 he succumbed to his injuries.
A fundraiser to support Nath’s family for clearing all the medical bills and funeral expenses has been organized by Balram Krishan.
A GoFundMe page has been created raising more than 60K dollars.
On July 9, 2023, Gurvinder Nath, a hardworking individual who was simply trying to make a living, fell victim to a horrifying act of violence while working, the page mentions. “He came to Canada in 2021 as an International Student. His address in India is VPO Karimpur Chahwala, Balachaur, SBS Nagar, Punjab, India. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his family find strength and solace in the outpouring of support from their community,” the page mentions.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to contact Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau at 905-453-3311, extension 3410. Information may also be left anonymously by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visiting peelcrimestoppers.ca.
This is not the first case where an international student from India has become a victim of a random attack and died.
Kartik Vasudev who came to Canada in 2022 was brutally shot dead at Toronto’s Subway station. Satwinder Singh became a victim of a shooting rampage while working at a gas station in Sept 2022. Harmandeep Kaur was working as a security guard at UBC Oknagan campus. She was attacked by a man on the campus and succumbed to her injuries 2 days after the attack.
